It’s a myth. Insects can’t see the color red. That fact Has nothing to do with tinting light “red”. The film you use to cover your ants just dulls the light so it’s not as bright for the ants. You could also use blue, green, orange, black, ect film that would have the exact same effect.

Wow, that is interesting, I did not know that!

I am not that sure but that might be interesting if ever it is true.

Red is the easiest to see through and disturbs then less(except for black)

Some species I hear can't see red as well such as lasius

From what I've read all ants can see red in one form of another. It's all about the light level mixed with a particular shade of red. Lasius Nigers seem to be the most able when it comes to seeing red light in any level, where as if I am not mistaken (I read this before hibernation season kicked in) tetramorium has much greater difficulty at identifying red light but the short end of it all ants can see red. It's actually the light under certain shades of red they struggle with.

All this has to come into consideration after the fact that ants do not rely on sight for the most part. I will try find that article as it was a good read.
