Headless queen???
Hello! I recently Caught 3 Queens today while I was at work. I only had a water bottle to put them in for the time being and I think they might have fought because one is now missing her head but she still moves and it looks like she’s cleaning her self. I was wondering can they still function properly and if so how long? Would she be able to found a colony still? Please help me!

I never encountered this problem before but it is known that the nervous sistem of insects continiu to react after their death. However it will probably soon stop moving. In the current state, it is imposible for her to found a colony. Even if she is still moving, she is actualy dead.

Thank you for replying! Well I put her in a test tube just because I don’t know what else to do with her and she is still like Walking around, it looks like she layed some eggs already. What should I do? Just wait for her to pass?

No I have not. But I saw all three of them very clearly before I put them together in the bottle and they all definitely had heads. I will try and take a good picture and post the link.

Re: Headless queen???
it actually might be, that she seems alive but that's due to her nerv system. If she doesn't end by dehydration than she dies due to starvation since she can't take up any more food. :/
But it's still quite interesting and fascinating.

Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Release her colony in your garden and make her live her remaining life in comfort...
