Did you know this about the praying mantis?

As most people know, the praying mantis are special in regards to their mating. Normally the females devour the males during or after mating.
Apparently this is completely incorrect in regards to wild praying mantis. Recently I read somewhere online that the females actually don't do this in the wild, however they do it in captivity since they might think, that there is not going to be enough food for her and her offspring. So what they do they kill the male and eat them. ;)
Sadly I couldn't find the science article talking about this specific fact so please take it with a grain of salt.
However I found some other articles talking about this.

https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/library/01/6/l_016_05.html
https://entomologytoday.org/2013/12/22/do-female-praying-mantises-always-eat-the-males/

What can you learn from this? Well it means that insects, even if they are small, might react differently in captivity and therefor some of the things you learned may or may not apply to the same kind of ant species in the wild.

Let me know what you guys think and if I should find that article I will add it in the future. ;)
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

This is actually quite true for some Latrodectus (widow spiders) species as well, I heard form a video that only two species of Latrodectus will eat their mate.
