I think I have a cursed outworld
So I have an ant outworld that I made myself and for some reason every ant that lives in it dies. It first housed my first Odontomachus queen which died and then I housed multiple other semi-claustral ant queens and young colonies.
Here's the list of ants that lived in it and cause of death: Odontomachus simillimus queens x3-5 infertility or failed founding stage, Odontoponera denticulata queens x5-10 infertility or failed founding stage, Crematogaster cf rogenhoferi colony x1 queen died while moving colony possibly died of stress, Iridomyrmex anceps colony x1 poisoned (possibly), Pheidole parva colony x1 escaped.
Do you have any similar cursed items with a story to tell? Also that out world is no longer in use and I kept it in the darkest corner of my ant room where a wild cellar spider now lives in it and it probably also died from it's curse. It's last use was in January of this year.

Maybe my entire room?
Ants are usually hard to keep and a variety of factors can cause them to die or decline. Although it's 99.9% not the outworld I would still make sure to wash it with soap before using again, then air it out for a few days while rinsing it with water. Make sure there is no odor inside before using it again.

I obviously did everything and there's no odor in it. Even though it is technically safe but I'm scared to use it again due to all the queens and colonies that died or escaped in it.

Maybe you should try putting a lucky penny in there, to counter-act the curse

I'm not sure if it will work, and also I don't use pennies anymore (or more accurately, the 1 sen, yes it is spelled that way in Malaysia) , the government sort of, abandoned them. Anyway I will try to counter-act the curse with something good, I just don't know what.
Edit: I just noticed this is my six hundred and sixty sixth post which makes it even more scary.

Re: I think I have a cursed outworld
Well the question is, what are the materials that were used? Sometimes it's those.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

I think it's probably clear polystyrene, I'll check it later as I'm at my grandparents house and I didn't bring it with me (for obvious reasons).AntsLuxembourg wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 4:02 amWell the question is, what are the materials that were used? Sometimes it's those.

Re: I think I have a cursed outworld
Well I think there we have it. I don't think polystyrene is very natural. It usually gives of fumes and I would guess the ants try to eat or consume some of it since they lick the surfaces clean and they take in those harmful substances. It's one thing if you encase your nets in it to isolate them from too much coldness or too much heat or sun but using them as the actual nest seems quite illogical. Don't worry it can happen but I would recommend you to switch to normal glass testtubes and tubing if the ants run out of space.

Re: I think I have a cursed outworld
Ok, thanks. I'll try to find some safer alternatives.
