Hello all,
I am a teacher in an alternative school here in Costa Rica.
One of my students is in the process of creating an ant farm as an ongoing science project.
However we are having trouble finding a queen ant to start the ant colony.
Does anyone have any advice on where we could find/buy one. There are no available GAN farmers in Costa Rica.
This project is really important to him so it is very important for me.
Thanks in advance, Lucinda.

You could try to find a queen ant. you could also ask some locals if they know anything. some common ants in costa rica are Leaf-cutters, Army ants and Acacia ants. If you see any ants forming a ant trail, try to follow them because they may lead you back to there nest and you can dig up there queen. But be careful

you can also try to leave out some jelly cups in places around your school to try to find them.

You should bring a test tube with cotton wherever you go so if you find one you can put her in it.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony
[Have a look at antmaps.org]
