I didn't check the specifics, I remembered mine were about 18mm if I am not mistaken. Some deviations in size are to be expected.

Yes sometimes they can be 2cm.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
