My strange queen
Hello everyone, recently my Camponotus formicarium and outworld arrived and in no time at all my colony of Carpenter ants moved right in. I estimated there are anywhere from 200-250 workers. They appear to really love their outworld but today I noticed something strange. My queen. She still hadn't shed her wings, although you could see where the workers had torn at the ends of her wings, and more surprisingly she leaves the nest and actually attempts to spread her wings and fly !!! Has anyone heard of a camponotus queen doing this? Shes clearly fertile and is the only one in the nest with wings ( no elates) I'm afraid she hurt herself and doom the colony, what should I do? If anything

Yeah, I agree withCamponotus on the flying matter-- She is probably just trying to shed them...
But as for leaving the nest, I can't think of anything else but maybe you're watering the formicarium too much? Maybe its causing too much moisture down there, but that is all I can think of..

I thought about the moisture part of the nest too. I removed some of the cotton as a way to lessen moisture. She is in there now and hasn't left, but she still has her wings. Will she ever shed them? Or will she keep them for her life
