What is the best substance used for barriers, when considering cost and efficiency?
Baby powder, baby powder and rubbing alcohol, fluon, or other?

Most effective is diluted fluon. (also the most expensive) After that dry baby power (no rubbing alcohol). This stuff has worked great for all my colonies.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
