Two Tetramorium species?

Post: # 48696Post AntsDakota

I find a larger and smaller Tetramorium species around my area. I can tell because the queen elates are different sizes. Does anyone have any ideas on what other species this could be? (They look almost completely the same, except for the size.)

Yeah, maybe. Could it be pilifera? (I haven't seen a single major, though.)

Actually, Pheidole pilifera seems a little small for even the smaller species.........

I have found in my established T. Immigrans colonies that size of the worker depends on how much food was available when they were developing.
Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

No. Its just that if some were a bit malnurished when they were developing they will be smaller.

I know that, but there are 2 sizes of queen elates from different nests. Also, one species is dull black and the other is shiny black.

Then they are different species. Pics would be better than vague descriptions.

Well, I would have to go some ways to get them, as they are not in my neighborhood.
