I found a queen a 12 days ago. She laid three eggs then a couple more a few days later. Then she started pulling on the exit side of the cotton quit a bit like she wanted out. I then found a small cricket, pre killed it and gave it to her in her test tube. She immediately started munching on it. She seems healthy now but I don’t see any eggs anymore. Any sudjestions? What temp should she be kept at? Will she lay worker eggs again? I’m loosing hope with her.

Oh and I live in Southern California and it’s our common fire ant. Maybe I have the species wrong? Help there aprox 1/4-3/8 inch and hurt a lot when stung by them.

Feed it some honey if you'd like to give her an energy boost. Queens usually eat their eggs if they feel frightened and want energy to fight. Just leave her alone for a while.
