Do all Formica species that aren't parasitic make huge hills?
I was thinking of housing one of my 3 Formica queens in a naturalistic setup and provide them with twigs and pine needles (The materials that I've seen Formica make hills out of) and watch them build a massive tower. Ants Australia said these towers can be over 2 meters high!
"God made every kind of wild beasts and every kind of livestock and every kind of creeping things;" (including ants) "and God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:25

You are correct, Formica can sometimes create supermassive mounds, however, you can limit the amount of soil that they are able to work with to diminish the size of said mound.
As always, wishing you well on your exciting ant adventure, Ants the Lowcountry.
