Hey.
I'm very new to ant keeping, hoping to start this summer though. I noticed around my yard that there were a lot of alates around, I think Camponotus herculeanus. I've seen like 5 alates and all of them were male. Is this just bad luck or are the female elates yet to come?

Usually both males and females at same time....if u got males search for females.......females are bigger than males.....and males are totally black but females have a brown shade...thorax of male is small but thorax of females are bigger than males......hope i help u

Apparently, I have really bad luck. Last night there were dozens of alates and not one of them was female. Unless I'm blind or something

The male are charged up and the slitest change tin temp moisture air pressure will send them crazy, but if there out it also means it close it will happen within the week my guess GOOD LUCK
