You aren't too young. You have the mind and the time. Get to it. And don't be afraid of fire ants. You can raise a colony for almost no money because the are so simple to feed. Just make sure you keep your barrier fresh and you'll be fine.

P.S. They can climb over barriers using corners. Try to find something with rounded corners. Gladware is what I use.

I already knew most of this information when I began ant keeping and I'm currently the proud owner of a RIFA colony.
This is my first successful ant colony and I'm so fricking happy. I'll notify about my progress with them later.(OH and it's a monoginous colony, one queen.)
