My Queens Won't Lay Eggs
I've got a Formica Fusca queen and a Lasius Niger or Neoniger queen. The Formica Fusca I've had for almost 3 weeks and still no eggs. I'm positive she's a queen since it's been 3 weeks without food and I don't think normal ants can live that long without it. The Lasius I've had for about 10 days now, still no eggs. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. If it's neoniger I think I have to wait until next Spring, but for my Formica, I have no idea why she hasn't laid any eggs.

Every 3 to 4 days.

I would go weekly, they could be stressed, they need darkness and peace. They are in a test tube set up correct?

Your doing everything right, they need peace and darkness, only other thing i can think of is to keep them out of air conditioned rooms.

Re: My Queens Won't Lay Eggs
If you caught them late maybe they are waiting for hibernation to start their colony.
Re: My Queens Won't Lay Eggs
Im having trouble with my formica sp too. Currently She have 2 workers where one worker just kept the egg to her mouth seems like in a carrying manner and doesn't put them down. My Queen just dont lay eggs as often as well. I tried researching about formica ants behaviour and some say around this time (aug-sept) they're still active and wont go to hibernation til oct onwards.. is there anything that i've done wrong?

Re: My Queens Won't Lay Eggs
My Formica. Sp queens have all stopped laying eggs around fall, I'm no expert but I believe they do this since some Formica sp brood cannot survive hibernation so they don't "waste" resources on them if they will not produce a worker by hibernation, sorry for the late post.
