Ants now accepting food!
Finally my ants are accepting their food choices. Today they were fed a cricket leg and a house fly
Re: Ants now accepting food!
At what stage were the ants not accepting food? Thx.AntOblivion wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2017 4:15 pmFinally my ants are accepting their food choices. Today they were fed a cricket leg and a house fly

My C. Pennsylvanicus colony is about 6 workers strong, and they weren't accepting food for a while the only thing they'd eat was honey but they finally are eating normallyFarrAnts wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2017 6:14 pmAt what stage were the ants not accepting food? Hmm. Did they not have larvae or something? And did you change anything to try and get then to eat? Sorry for all the questions, haha. I'm just wobering for when my colonies get to where yours are at. Thx again.AntOblivion wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2017 6:16 pmMy C. Maybe don't feed them house flies. They could have been exposed to some type of bacteria or poison.

They did have larvae. I was confused but they're eating normal now. Iv'e read they only eat food they know will benefit the colony so i guess they needed the energy idkFarrAnts wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2017 6:17 pmHmm. Did they not have larvae or something? I live far from agriculture so it's okay to feed flies that i know don't have pesticidesAntsOnTheCoast wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2017 6:21 pmMaybe don't feed them house flies. They could have been exposed to some type of bacteria or poison.

Also, i just want to point it out that ants /queen may not accept food in the early days of their colony. The queen usually makes a bit of substance that she feeds the young nanitics.

Hey bud that's great news I was also curious about when exactly my colony of 3 new worker(nanitics) from my campontus Castaneus colony would start feeding on protein foods such as crickets or fruit flies as of now I'm guessing they are still to young only about a week old to do anything just yet they have taken some honey but seem to reject any protein food I'll wait a lil longer being I still have more pupa developing thanks for that info
