Scientists encourage not releasing ants back to the wild. Not only do they have lessened chances of survival, but they stand chances of introducing pathogens.
I plan to release my spare queens later with one (if she survives) living in a box with a hole that she can't escape from but workers can because she only has one antennae so I consider her disabled. My house is only a few degrees warmer than outside so about the same as underground besides I would insulate the disabled queen's box to keep it warm. i see no issue with releasing them unless they are not a native species

Releasing your queens is basically a death sentence. If they have already found a place to nest, laid eggs, and have larvae, the chances of their survival are slim.

But if they have about 20 workers? Okey then?

Honestly she has a better chance being released with workers than she did during nuptial flight.... most queens are picked off by birds, other colonies etc...
