I love the picture. :)

About your question, depending on the insects, you can keep them in the fridge. For me Mealworm can be easily refrigerated and kept for a long time.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

I think mealworms best kept at 60 F
I may be wrong though, based on memory.

I chuck my mealworms into the fridge which should be around 6°C. They just sleep all the time, some of them of course die but that can happen. Just fish them out the next time you grab some for feeding and done. Talking about this I should feed some mealworms to my big colony again. ^^

They seem a bit bored at the moment.

True. Some ant colonies be like that. You can experiment with different honey types too. Got Flower, acacia and another honey where I don't remember the name. I know it's not full in protein but better than only mealworms or the same honey.

That’s my colonies, so I was like, HERE TAKE LIVE FLIGHTLESS FRUIT FLY PREY! And they ate it, but now I have a minor flightless fruit fly problem in the room with the ants.

There is only 2 flies and they don’t fly, I almost caught one, but I missed. It is fine, they have no where to mate and they will die soon.
