I'm considering starting a colony and live in a temperate area, will I need to hibernate my ants in winter? and if so, will they still need food during hibernation?. Thank you.

From what I know, ants don't need food during hibernation. I don't need to hibernate my ants since I live in a tropical area and I don't know much about hibernation. Maybe someone else will help you better with it.

You do not need to hibernate your ants but it is prefered, if you don't then you will need to feed them. If you hibernate them and they are in a hibernationnal state then you don't need to feed them but if you hibernate them and they are still foraging then you did not do it right and you will also need to feed them.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony
[Have a look at antmaps.org]
