Trap jaw queen ant
I just found a trap-jaw queen ant, and I don't know how to take care of this kind of ant. Some say that I must feed it with cockroach every 3 days. what do you think? Please, I need some info about this ant, and I want to make sure that this colony gets bigger.
Re: Trap jaw queen ant
First, you should put substrate in the test tube, the larvae need substrate to spin cocoons. Second, you need to feed her, you can feed her insects like mealworms and roaches, make sure all food is cut up so the queen can directly eat up the prey, remove any uneaten food to prevent mold growth. Make sure the food is smaller that her as Trap jaws are not meant to hunt large prey items. Feed her every 2-3 days. You can also feed her a small drop of honey but they don't need it during the founding stage. Egg to worker takes roughly 2 months. Trap jaws also like high humidity and sometimes when there is not enough humidity the larvae will fail to spin cocoons.
