Collecting wild colonies is needlessly destructive.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.

Re: Where to find Carpenter Ants?
Nobody here is doing any research without the scientific method and very large sample sizes (researching 100+ Camponotus colonies).
It's one thing to observe nature, but without the scientific method we are just hobbyists who want pets. I don't think that's worth tearing up habitats and breaking up colonies that have otherwise beaten natural selection.

I caught my queen under a log... no nest, no workers or eggs yet... I just got lucky flipping over logs & found her.
