Getting into ants for the first time since I was in elementary school. built my first formicarium, before I always used the uncle milton ant farms or jars full of dirt.
introduced my test tube of one queen, camponotus pennsylvanicus, 6 workers and various larvae. one worker exited tube and ran down hole, came back and told his buddies. the same worker keeps coming and going, the others are remaining in tube for now.
these guys are pretty relaxed.
I have a starter colony of camponotus vicinus as well. these guys are pretty excited and moving around alot. and their test tube is out of water. I am building a smaller formicarium that i hope to introduce them to tomorrow, they are 4 workers and the queen, and eggs and larvae.
will update

Omg I am speechless....
did you build that???
What materials did you use for building the soil? I think I see clay behind the sand pieces
I have a pic too of my queen but it is not as impressive as yours
