VASELINE AS A BARRIER

Hello everyone,
This topic of vaseline as a barrier has been mentioned before, but none mentioned the issue I am having. I have a fairly large (500+ workers) tetramorium colony living in a terarrium. I use vaseline as the barrier. Ive been finding, however, many dead ants in the vaseline.
What the issue is, though, is that I have also never seen an ant go INTO the barrier, only up to it then back the way it came. I have noticed that some workers walk up to the barrier with dead ants, and that is what makes me ask this question:

Are my ants just dying in vaseline, or are they using it as their dead ant disposal? I havent seen anything like this in any of Mikey's videos, and am just wondering if anyone else has encountered this. Thank you for any and all responses!

TL;DR-
Does vaseline kill ants, or will ants use the vaseline barrier as a dead ant disposal?

I have heard of this happening before. usually this is just a ant cemetery. just be careful because sometimes the ants will use there dead as a bridge.
