Hello antlovers.
I have 3 colonies of ants. Two of them seem to be lasius niger and the other one seems to be tetramorium caespitum.
So for the winter i bought a fridge for them and slowly cooled them down.
I build up a raspberry pi with a temperatur monitoring to see if the temperature is right.
Today was the last step by getting them to the desired 6 - 8 degrees celsius.
So my first question is, do they care about the temperature fluctuations? It will stay between the 6-8 degrees celsius now.
Here you can see how i packed them in the fridge. (the cable is for the temperature monitoring.
And there is my second question. Do they care about the mealworms that i also placed in the fridge (on top of the formicarium)?
Thank you in advance.
Greetings from Steve

6°C-8°C is perfect. Try to keep them at a steady temperature (only differing by around 3°C). They should stay in their nest for the most of the winter so the mealworms won't bother them.

Ok. Good to hear.
Do I have to feed them during the hibernation?
Like giving them sugar water or proteins?

They only require water during hibernation.PlaylikeSteve wrote: ↑Thu Nov 01, 2018 5:47 amOk. Good to hear.
