Hi, I have a Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony with 13 workers. I have a couple of questions.
When putting together the hybrid nest should I clean it first (also with what) or can i just seal it and be good?
I've read that 10 to 20 workers is good enough to move in a nest. Is it safe to have them move in there or should i wait? I know Camponotus sp. are big so a test tube may get cramped fast.
Thank you

Re: hybrid nest question
nope, your hybrid is ready to be lived in Yeah your probably good to move them now since they are a large species. If you wanted to be super safe you could wait just so they are farther away from the founding stage.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Re: hybrid nest question
I would wait, at least until more workers arrive, which would be after hibernation.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

Or move them into an AC Omni nest verticle and only give them one floor.
"God made every kind of wild beasts and every kind of livestock and every kind of creeping things;" (including ants) "and God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:25
