Look after a rain storm or on a humid day, in the late morning-early afternoon, between 11 am to 3 pm.

Ants fly at all times of day. Some species are found at night ( you an use a blacklight to attract them) and others early morning, and others afternoon.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Re: Having trouble finding queen ants
I find most of my queens in the evenings from July-August. As it is cooler so the queens don't get cooked by all this heat. Also look up native ants in your area as it will help provide extra info which will prove useful for finding queens and much more.
