Re: Ready for the nuptial flights!
Sorry for the awful picture no macro yet, is this a queen or male?
Re: Ready for the nuptial flights!
It has wings so it is a ant alate. it could be male or female. you will just have to wait and see. when and how did you catch it?
p.s. we should see if madvamp will move this to the I.D. section....... cough cough....

Re: Ready for the nuptial flights!
It was caught under a street lamp at 9:30 pm. I am in Alabama. There were hundreds of them, I got 4. Will try to get better pictures up tomorrow. I tried to start a new topic but could not figure out how to.
Re: Ready for the nuptial flights!
I know the picture is not good at all, but any clue what type ant it is? I looked around for some with no wings, and found none.
Re: Ready for the nuptial flights!
i would need a size reference, or a measurement (in mm) to take a stab at it. if it is as big s i think it is, it may be Lasius Sp. but it could be a couple more things depending on the size and maybe a clearer photo.Varanid wrote:I know the picture is not good at all, but any clue what type ant it is? Re: Ready for the nuptial flights!
They will not stay still, close to 10 mm as far as I can tell.
Re: Ready for the nuptial flights!
Ill go with Lasius Interjectus in lieu of a clearer photo. male, or female, fertile or infertile..... time will tell us that.Varanid wrote:They will not stay still, close to 10 mm as far as I can tell.

Posted this again in ant Id forum, have a slightly better picture on there as well. Not very good at taking ant photos unfortunately.
