Queen Abandoned Egg?

Post: # 77243Post JackDaniels

I’ve recently purchased a Lasius Niger Queen, I’ve had her for about a month and a bit and one of the eggs has recently entered the final stage before hatching. Is this something I should expect her to do? She doesn’t have any reason to move it away from the other eggs.

If the egg doesn’t hatch will I have to provide her with protein?

Any help is appreciated.

When an egg becomes a larva the queen will usually separate it from the eggs. In ant colonies many species will separate the eggs, the larva and the pupa it is just to be organised. And yes you should give them some protein, but only when the first worker arrives.
My current colonies:
The miniature military(formica neogagates)
the power of war(camponotus novaeborecensis)
the black hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
