My husband and I were walking today and seen a ant about 1/4 long and were not sure if fire ants have majors. We live in Jacksonville, Flordia. If they don't have majors could it have been a possible queen ant? Sorry i don't have a picture of her.

Could have been pogernomyrmex
Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

It looked like a solenoposis but I know we have 2 species here. It was red with a black butt. But nothing I've seen said anything about them having majors.

Solenopsis geminata have majors, and I would think Solenopsis invicta would not be much different.
