Here in Germany I caught a Tetramorium queen in late May and another one about a week ago, both at about 10 o'clock in the morning. I would keep your eyes peeled right around now.

I'm quiet new to the ant world but if isn't debris it could be a mite so watch out. But don't trust me and ask for more experimented people to answer.

Man I have the opposite problem. I find nothing but Tetramorium. 2 medium sized colonies and 2 fresh caught two days ago. Try rural areas or a bike path would be my recommendation.

I caught a wingless queen, wondering around the ground, about two weeks ago, in Oklahoma. I am new to this, so I couldn't tell if it was a queen pavement ant, or one of the larger species in the area (about 10 ft). But as it has been two weeks and it is still alive, although running out if water, so I'm almost certain that it is a queen. But the problem is: it still hasn't laid any eggs.

look for them at about noon in recently wet area or under pots you still might be able to catch them but it is late.

From what I have seen in AC youtube vids. Red mites are bad news. They are blood suckers are can kill colonies quick enough. I have no idea if it is possible to just pull the mite off. I would look into that before you try it in case you could seriously injure the queen.

I am in Ireland and im still waiting to find tetramorium queens myself.
Research is important before during and even after you have established a colony. There is always time to learn and to listen to others experiences. Live by this and your ants will thrive. Fail to do so and your experience may be brief.
