I am on a quest to identify the ants living in my local area, to give you a bit of info they look like carpenter ants exept they are only 4mm big! Their butt is black, middle is a dark shade of red and the head is black. I am in dubai btw.
I really need to know what species these guys are becuase i want to start my first ant colony and if I don’t get a species name i can’t find a care guide to follow. I will be updating tomorrow with pictures :D

I will do my best to identify them! But just know that if she is not a queen, you will not be able to make a colony.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Is there any way you could get better photos? That would help.

Cataglyphis savignyi
Cataglyphis urens
The ant in the image is a Formicinae ant, so this rules out any other subfamily. And from the body shape and length of legs and antennae, this rules out Polyrhachis, Tapinolepis, Nylanderia and Lepisiota. From the size of just 4mm, this rules out Camponotus. So we have Cataglyphis left, through the body features of each species, I have ruled out C. acutinodis(No image available), C. aurata, C. bombycina, C. cinnamomea, C. emmae, C. fisheri, C. flavobrunnea, C. nigra, C. rubra, C. sablosa, and C. viaticoides. Now we are left with 9 species of Cataglyphis, for a proper ID we need better pictures.

Ok, I was thinking Cataglyphis sp., but wasn't sure.
