Re: California Ant Watch
New to AntsCanada, and my daughter is excited about the possibility of keeping an ant colony. We live in San Diego. Is there any chance at a nuptial flight before winter?

Yes. You can find Pogonmyrmex. Rugosos founding chambers in sandy areas(Small mounds of dirt) (Desert harvester ants) these need heat, so I would not recommend for beginners.
When you accidentally reply to yourself…
Re: California Ant Watch
My son is a big AntsCanada fan, and he was very excited recently (July 21) to come across a nuptial flight of some red ants (sorry, I'm new at this and don't know species) in the San Joaquin Valley, California.

Re: California Ant Watch
If you want, I could help you identify them.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.
