Nuptial Flights in Ipoh, Malaysia
Hi everyone. Does anyone know when are the nuptial flights in Ipoh, Malaysia? Because after heavy rain I can see lots of drones of Lasius Niger ants but it's only that species. I cannot find any Camponotus, Odontomachus, Polyrhachis or Oecophylla ants anywhere. Also, the Lasius Niger ants are dominating almost everywhere, and the trap jaw ants and polyrhachis ants seemed to vanish. When are the nuptial flights?? I will be grateful if anyone can help answer my question.
I have found more queens!
-Polyrhachis laevissima (left only queen)
-Pheidole parva (TOO MUCH)
-Iridomyrmex Anceps
-Polyrhachis dives
Hope to catch camponotus soon...

Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Re: Nuptial Flights in Ipoh, Malaysia
Lasius niger isn't found in Malaysia. Polyrhachis and Oecophylla flights should be starting soon, at around May to July, sometimes as late as September. Camponotus tend to fly towards the end of the year, around August to February but I have personally seen Camponotus parius and C. irritans flights occur during April. Odontomachus flights vary a lot, they fly year round but I have seen some alates during March, November and February. Carebara fly from May to July but I have seen some during October and December. Nylanderia and Pheidole parva fly year round.

Okay, let's break it down one by one.
So summarized: with maybe the exception of Odontomachus, Malaysia doesn't appear to have a nuptial season. All species fly year round.

You sure it's Lasius niger? They're not supposed to be there afaik.I can see lots of drones of Lasius Niger ants
I cannot find any Camponotus
Odontomachus
Polyrhachis
or Oecophylla
So summarized: with maybe the exception of Odontomachus, Malaysia doesn't appear to have a nuptial season. All species fly year round.
