Still haven't found a tetramorium, but found like 6 or 7 more camponotus queens at my work yesterday, so I'm loaded up on those. Didn't expect them to still be flying this late, though.
I found tons of camponotus, but the thing is, I don't want them. I don't have the patience to raise them.

Same, I would much rather raise tetramorium or formica for my first colony. Camponotus are cool, but they just take so long to get up to larger numbers

That's why I was so excited about my tetramorium. I even bought a vertical omni nest so I could be completely ready

I bought a THA mini hearth in preparation as a founding nest for if I get something besides Camponotus, but I'm hoping there's some kind people in the Everett, WA area that plan on posting any of their extra tetramorium or formica queens on the GAN in case I can't find one myself.

I might sell my camponautus on GAN. Or just release them

I caught a Camponotus laevigatus queen yesterday!

Which camponotis did you two catch?

I'm pretty sure most of mine are C. Modoc, but there might be another one mixed in. Not really experienced with identifying specific species. Also not exactly sure of how many camponotus species there are in Washington besides C. Modoc and their differences, so that makes it even more difficult for me

I caught a pensalvanicus and vicinus. Also, tetramorium are flying hardcore right now. I caught 6 in the past two days. I found 4 of them within a 1ft. by 1 ft. area.

My son and I are new here (to the forum and to ant-keeping). We caught our three queens during the Spring nuptial flight here in WA and were told they were C. laevigatus and C. modoc.

The ID post is here, if you'd like to see photos: http://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=4127

We are most likely keeping Queen #1 and are discussing the probability of keeping Queen #2. My son is a 10yro aspiring entomologist but we aren't quite ready to shell out $200+ for two sets of formicariums and outworlds. I am still researching what to do with Queen #3, regarding whether or not releasing her is a good or bad idea. We may wait for her to get workers so they can scout a home for her.
