so far it's rained so Imparis flights have been delayed by weather. All wild colonies I've located still have elates swarming near their entrances. Also about the Lasius lol I've found 40+ parasitic queens too... claviger, Interjectus , and Umbratus
30 of the claviger queens were in a Niger colony sitting by a dead queen. I collected the colony and queens and put them all in separate testubes to see if they'll develope with the Niger workers. did the same with interjectus and Umbratus queens. Don't worry there are still a good 100 of those parasitic queens out there that I ignored.
I'm wondering if the parasitic queens use swarm tactics and winter as a way to infiltrate the nests and take over. the parasitic queens were still relatively active versus the Lasius Niger colony. I'd assume that winter would kill the colony scent so it would be absolute chaos when they left diapause with all those queens.

I caught a prenolepis imparis queen on the 26th. They might still be flying for more northern areas. I'm glad anting season has begun.

Be warming up over here in Northern Illinois, along with my Tetramorium species being more active I'm gonna be looking for any potential queens after the rain showers this weekend.
Wish me luck! I wish the same for the rest of you!

I've been keeping an eye on a few active Prenolepis Imparis colonies to get a good idea of when they are going to fly. I checked them yesterday and the elates are still chilling in the colonies. This is in illinois around STL

I have a colony somewhere in or near my yard but haven't seen any alates nor do I know where the colony is but there is a park about 8 miles away around Fairview Hieghts that i frequent and there are several colonies with active alates still swarming near the entrances. It keeps pouring rain delaying their flights here.
