Florida nuptial flights
Any sightings in central Florida? Looking for camponotus species.
Re: Florida nuptial flights
Only thing I've seen so far was a single fire ant colony with a few alates swarming the day after after a storm. I did manage to find a pair of termite alates after that same storm, so I'm giving them a try. Hopefully alates will start swarming soon as the weather starts warming up within the next month. I'd love to get a camponotus queen, they're right up there on my list with along with odontomachus. I'll keep my eyes out and try to come back here when I've found something.
Re: Florida nuptial flights
Just found the first queen ant of the nuptial season. She seemed very slow-moving, but I’m hoping that’s just because of the cold weather. I believe it’s a pheidole queen, found at 8:30 am on a clear day, temp. was about 56F. The hunt is on!

Most nests I have come across in and around Lakeland FL have a few alate adults, but more are still in the pupae stage. A week or three should see a queen Bonanza around here.

Tons of Fire Ant queens out here in jacksonville today. Caught 10 queens all in test tube setups. We will see if they are fertile!
