On 27/10/2021, I found a rainbow ant queen in South Auckland.

I am not sure when the mating period starts for insects and other living creatures. But I feel that predicting such an activity or an event is a difficult task. It is mainly because the temperature and environment must be suitable for such an event. In most living things except humans, you will find the environmental factor at large. This is why there can be disruption in the local periods of insects such as ants. Moreover, if you find something on research, the majority of the first liners say that there is not a specific period for nuptial flights.
A nuptial flight is a mating period for ants, especially the queen and the winged ones. The ants which enter the adult phase leave the nests of their parents and fly out. This is the period when the mating begins to reproduce the colonies. In the ants’ terminology, colony refers to the group of ants which emerge from a reproduction session. But such a reproductive period mostly happens to depend upon the environment as well as the temperature. When suitable conditions come up, you will see the ants leaving the parent nests and flying out. For the New Zealanders, maybe a period when the cold goes out or begins to go out, the ants will come out.

Hi All!

Recently got into the hobby myself! It seems based on all the comments here that in NZ Nuptial flights last from November to around April ish? Anyone know WHERE to find queens roaming however? Parks? Carparks/Supermarket areas? Woodland areas (good luck with that). Any advice massively appreciated, us NZers into Ants should make a reddit or forum along the likes

Hi guys, I noticed that RedCifer, NZAntFan, and others said that they were catching queens. How do I find any? I am pretty new to the hobby so I don't know much about finding queens.

Can you guys help? I haven't ever seen the ants flying not to mention find a queen.

I live in Auckland, any suggestions on the best place to go and also when the flights here are?
