Awesome! Glad to hear they are flying and that you got some! Yes there are other users from "Down Under" that would be glad to hear this! Thanks for making the posting!

Hey Redcifer

Nice to know there is at least one other Kiwi out there that's into Ants. I went out yesterday and caught 5 queens so i consider it a good start. Been a long time fan of Ants but only Just decided to give keeping them a go. Would love to chat to you about different Ants we have here and keen to do some queen swapping or purchasing - especially if you Have a Red big Headed Ant Queen.

Regards

Just getting into the hobby, and it's been hard to obtain information about nuptial flights in New Zealand. Where exactly did you go to find these queen ants in Auckland? I'm not sure where to go. Please help me!
Should I go to the Domain, One Tree Hill... Where should I go?

I have been trapping local ants and watching their progress over the winter season in Wellington city. Unfortunately, two of my nearby colonies seem to have disappeared, including one which I saw fighting with another in early spring.

I am hoping to see winged alates popping up to the surface for a naughty meal before nuptial flight season but haven't seen any yet.

The colony of which seems to have been the successor in the battle is starting to allow a large amount of workers to reach the surface, and a week ago, all starting moving bits of debre. I believe they may have moved their nest into an overhang of concrete in one of the terraces on our property. So excited to see the nuptial flights begin and I will post up if I see any alates.
