Hi,
Just starting off on my ant keeping adventure. (Very excited)
Recently rescued a queen from my pool. She still has her wings but I know that doesn't always mean they haven't mated. My question is, if a queen is fertilized. Will she still fly?
After rescuing her, she started drying off her wings, and even tried to fly away as I was putting her in. The test tube.
Thanks for the help.
Question about flying queens

Re: Question about flying queens
The few queens I have captured with wings have not tried to fly at all. Not sure if a mated queen will fly, I would assume if she thought her life was in danger though she would do anything to get away including flying.
Re: Question about flying queens
queens mate whilst flying. if they near the nest openin they have not flown yet if they are say a meter from nest opening or further they have flown and mated. the males after mating in mid air fall to the ground and die. most get gathered by workers and recycled.
