Today I captured my first Black Carpenter Ant Queen, lots of males on the ground but only the one Queen so far, she caught me by surprise!

Hi, I found a Carpenter Ant Queen walking around a couple of weeks ago and put her in a test tube setup. She has laid some eggs so she appears to have been mated.
Is this a Queen from last year that didn't start her colony before hibernating? There wasn't much of any activity before I found her. I thought that Carpenter Ants had their nuptial flights much later on.
