North Carolina Nuptial Flights
North Carolina Nuptial Flights
I've got a tiny handful of Camponotus flights going on down here. I've seen males and queens of castaneus, and males only of pennsylvanicus. I've also got M. minimum in SWARMS. Caught over 70 last night.

Re: North Carolina Nuptial Flights
Any chance anyone has seen a flight in NC recently? I'm eagerly trying to get into the hobby, but I fear I came across it too late.

That's a nice picture of everything except the queen.
Kinda looks like Solenopsis invicta.

Hmm, you might be right.
I'm thinking about releasing. I'm new to all this and everything I'm seeing tells me that Solenopsis are a pretty advanced species to keep.
Thoughts?

Some would say that it is an easy species because of how easily it grows. You don't live in the tropics, so you should be able to keep up with it just fine.TheUnfocusedOne wrote:Hmm, you might be right.

Well, you've convinced me.
Just got my test tube. I'll be transferring her over to it later tonight! Fingers crossed everything goes well.

Re: North Carolina Nuptial Flights
Anyone have any suggestion on how to find small ant queens?
I'm hoping there are some Lasius that are flying today, but they're so small that they are hard to see on the pavement. Anyone have any tricks?
