I'm pretty sure I caught a queen!!!
I found an old Christmas plexiglass container it was probably used for candy or something I though a small amount of coconut fiber in there with some water in a bottle cap same with some raw honey.
She seems to enjoy her environment I noticed she dug a small tunnel though the little amount of coco fiber, I will probably add more coco fiber tomorrow as well as order some test tubes.

I am interested in becoming a GAN farmer for Oregon as I didn't noticed any.

I put her in a cupboard in my bathroom I open her lid when I shower she seems to enjoy the humidity.

It's been about a week since I discovered my first queen.
I added more coco fiber to the mix.
I ordered some large test tubes from eBay I also ordered a strange gel ant farm looks cool can't wait till it shows up it appears to be a modular setup so I can attached new worlds to it (I'm super excited) now just time to identify my queen.
I did a search on the forums cuz I thought I saw a place to post pics for ant identification guess not maybe it's just buried so I'll post a pic on my old post and hopefully someone with some knowledge can Identify her :)

Hi,

The one thing I learned while browsing these forums is that the gel farms suck. The gel isn't that nutritious for them and actually causes them to enter a stupor. Now that's not to say you couldn't use it the setup with another digging medium. I just wouldn't use the gel if I were you.

Please dont use gel farms. They will most likely kill your queen. They dont provide protein, only weak amounts of sugar. Just enough nutrition to keep a few workers alive for a couple of weeks. If you can cancel your order, do so. Yeah, they look cool, and yeah, i had one two when I first started, but They are only acceptable if you get the harvester ants to dig in them with no queen. I dont see anything ethically wrong with Buying some harvester workers to dig around in the gel, but as far as raising a colony with a queen, it won't work.

Perhaps the container will be fine and I won't use the gel...I hope it doesn't come pack with the gel already inside...I ordered it on wish so I'm not expecting to much (I will take your advice but I'm mainly interested in the container)

My test tubes showed up :) very very happy :) I ordered them from eBay I got the large ones because I got a large queen :)

I moved her from the plexiglass container to the test tube setup at first I had two cotton balls blocking the water but i checked on her the next day and decided to remove the second cotton ball...She seems happier now :)

Well surprise surprise my baby boy decided he wanted to show up a month early!! (Starting my human colony) welcome Jace Edward!!!

My ant farm showed up a couple weeks ago...I removed the gel cleaned it out and put in a dirt substrate...she was having problems climbing the tubes so I put sewing thread through them now she can climb them just fine....at first she would just stay in her nest but I planted grass seed in the soil now she just hangs out in the grass.
She hasn't burrowed in the soil and as far as I can tell she hasn't laid any eggs but she's a carpenter ant so I'll be patient.
