she may need a little protein. sneak a cricket thigh in there next time you feed. :D

i wouldnt personally, but i have heard others do it. not sure about the species and weather they will take it. petsmart sells crickets. i usually get a few dozen and freeze them to use at leisure.

i freeze everything i give to my pets first. freezing gets rid of any parasites that may be present in the food. it also makes it so much easier to keep more food for them for a longer time without it going bad. :D

I gave My lasius neoniger queen a cricket leg and a little bit of honey. the day afterwards I found one more nanitic! does anyone know how long until I have about 20 workers? I am really excited to put them in a formicarium!!!! (by the way, she has two nanitics currently)

it is pretty neat. just wait until the sizes start to change as they are eclosed. its pretty cool too.

how much change in size should I expect? also how long would you estimate before I havve enough workers to move into a lasius hybrid nest? how many workers do you suggest before they are moved? I've heard people say 5-10, and others have said 50! lol I have a lot of questions :)

they only vary from 2.5 to 3.5 i believe. not a big difference in measure, but they will look considerably different to the eye.
best to move with as many workers as possible present. i usually give them the opportunity to move when it starts to get simi difficult to feed them in the tube. this also depends on the size of the tube, though.
i have moved some with around 10 workers, ive also moved them when they have had 60 or so.
