Yes, they are very close!

You can’t see it in these photos, but the inner pupae has a darkened head and gaster, so probably in the next couple of days for that one.

if you actually look at the near the queen at the biggest larvae it looks about the same size of the pupae which means you could have a major comming soon

Yeah, I saw that. I was wondering if it was just a media or major pupae, or if it was close to pupating

UPDATE

The second Worker has finally eclosed! This one is a lot bigger than her nanitic sister, but she has still not quite tanned yet. There is another pupae that is close to eclosing as well. There are still 2 other large larave and about 6 other small larvae. The colony growing very nicely!

UPDATE

Well, it’s been about a hundred million years since I last updated, so I may as well do one today.

The colony has grown to 3 workers, 1 gigantic larva, two normal sized larvae, and six smaller larvae. At this point, brood development has stopped for me as Australia heads into winter, and will not likely grow for another three months. Unfortunately, hibernation in Australia still requires me to feed the ants regularly, as it does not get quite cold enough for me to just chuck them in the fridge.

I can’t wait for roughly two months after the end of hibernation. We will have a small population explosion, with about 9 workers by then.

Well, that’s about it for this update. I also won’t be posting as much as there will not be too much going on, with the halt of brood development and all. Maximum 1 a month to be honest.

i know the feeling, as tis was my first hibernation, my third gen of anonychromyrma died leaving the queen to deal with like 100 eggs and she died shortly after, but i cant wait to get some cool spp of ants, hopefully myrmicia or camponotus which ive found 3 nests of them near my house . But real question... any news on the pupae the size of the queens gaster?

To me, Camponotus pennsylvanicus seems to grow faster, because it took 2 months for 2 workers and 2-3 weeks later 3 more emerged leaving me with 5 and I'm hoping that workers 6,7,8, and 9, which are all pupae, will emerge within the next 2 weeks, and perhaps another two weeks 10 and 11 will emerged.
