I was pulling weeds in my garden back on Wednesday May 11th and accidentally disturbed a nest of ants. They were running everywhere, grabbing larva and eggs. I saw alot on an old folded leaf. I picked up that leaf and opened it very carefully, tons of workers, tons of brood and a queen. I raced into the house, grabbed a ready test tube, raced back to the garden, grabbed the leaf and gently slid it into the the test tube. There was also an old acorn nut with brood inside, I put that into the test tube also, closed it with cotton, and raced back into the house.
I had an AntsCanada lasius hybrid nest waiting for my prenolepis imparis colony to grow. It would be several months before they were ready for it. So I removed the glass top and put the leaf inside a chamber and the acorn in a close chamber and put the lid back on.

On May 13th they started moving brood to another chamber.

I didn't know what they really ate so I offered seeds and hummingbird nectar. They loved the nectar. https://photos.app.goo.gl/X8t9fsyJeLufLyGH6
And went back to the colony and shared.

June 2nd they were in the process of moving the brood again. Some in the tubing connecting the formicarium to the test tube portal, and some back to the acorn.

June 8th a day after feeding them more hummingbird nectar, you can see the food in the larva bellies.

June 26th they moved the entire colony into the water test tube.

June 11th I gave them blue sugar water. Lol!

Also fed them some protein powder mix.
This colony regularly gets rolly pollies, flies, and an occasional worm. All dead and crushed of course.
I cleaned out the test tube portal the other day and didn't put the lid back on all the way, and I had a prison break going on. About 15 of them escaped and was running all over my dresser. After about an hour I had them all back in the setup. But now every time I touch the portal they scurry to the top to see if the lid is on correctly.
