Update 5/16/22 - No more bodies & Agave GOOD!

Cracked open the container I have my test tube in and NO NEW DEAD BODIES! I was very happy to see that state of affairs.

Pulled cotton and gave them a drop of Agave Nectar and it seems to be a big hit. Drop from a couple of days ago was gone! When I put it down, Queen and two workers ran right up and started drinking.

Can anyone think of a down side to feeding this as carb?

Once out world gets here I'll wrap test tube in paper to darken and put in out world. This will make feeding of protein and carbs much easier and no disturbing the tube.

Lastly, I think I have some brood under cotton pulled out from water end. I'll try and look later, but I'm so very cautious about adding stress that I hate to the the touch tube at all. Silly isn't it??!! That's it for now.

Peace & Happy Anting...Bill P.
You can check at lest once a day, and if it really concerns you, once every other day. My Camponotus socius(Very slow growing) are fine with me checking on them every now and then, as long as I don’t plug/unplug the tube. You can try fruit, but it molds much faster, just stick to nectar. The ants rarely grow tired of it, especially in large colonies.

Update 5/16/22 - Food is good!

How smart are these little buggers? It seems that they have tied me uncovering them and tube movement to feeding time. It's that or their more aggressive/comfortable in their environment.

I move the cotton and they come running!! Do they know?

The Agave Nectar is a big hit. Tonight fed a piece of super worm and a drop of nectar, then covered them back up. I'll check tomorrow for hollowed out worm shell. FUN FUN FUN!!

I still need to check for brood...

Peace & Happy Anting!

Update - 5/19/22 I lost another worker today!!!

I'm not sure what's going on. My breeder tells me that the nanantics only have a limited lifespan anyway. Not sure what is up. That's three deaths in 4 or so days.

Maybe they are cold? I dunno. I just want my outworld to get here so I can put tube in outworld and stop disturbing them. Any thoughts??

I think all the nanitics are dying one by one. It there are enough workers then you should be fine
Ants I have-
camponotus compressus colony- the shadow warriors.
Pls just let me have a tetramorium colony

My friend’s Camponotus colony has 4 workers, and queen was caught in October. (Second worker batch)

Makes sense I guess. I do have one worker who's twice the size of the others. I'm thinking I'm okay. Thanks for the info.

Update - 5/23/22 - NEED ADVICE!!

So my Wakooshi stuff arrived today!! What a kick in the butt putting it together. LOL!!
It's all so small and cute but I should have paid someone to put it together.

My dilemma is as follows. Outworld is too small for test tube.

I only have queen and 3 or 4 workers so even though nest is only approx. 3" x 4", I don't have enough to put them in nest right?

Should I hook tube to outworld and let them grow numbers like that?

Another question, what size or wattage heat cable should I buy? I definitely think they are cold. My current living arrangements are not optimal and where I keep them is too cold I think.

Take a look at pics in link and give me some advice. Thanks in advance for any tidbits off wisdom you may provide.

I believe you dont need to put them in the out world yet, you can continue feeding them in the test tube. Also does the test tube not fit in the outworld diagonally?

If we know most test tubes are around 150mm in length,(Right? 10mmx150mm?)

We know the s1 outworlds are 80x100(base)

And with a simple formula-

A^2+B^2=C^2

Then 80^2+100^2=How long the tube must be to perfectly fit.

So 6400+10000=16400

So, square root 16400, you get 128.06mm,

Therefore, if

Tube>128

The tube will not fit.

(The one time I actually care about the Pythagorean theorem, just because I am insanely bored right now)

(Sorry )
