emergency hibernation exit

Post: # 75383Post LaSiUsNiGeR

from my other posts you know that i bury my ants underground for hibernation and
you should know that it snowed so i woke up and i looked outside SNOW!!!!
i could only think of one thing
the ant air straws i rushed downstairs and went into the garden i ran to the spot the ants where buried
and i didnt see the straw so i dig a bit down and see the straw so i digged around the straw
and found the box the ants where in there is a corner filed with snow and the rest was clean
i took the test tube out and look inside and the ants seemed alive there antennae where moving so i guess thats
means rescue SUCCESS :D

it happened on 2/7/2021 at around 8:15 Amsterdam time

I bought the hybrid nest i also bought a outworld not ac(thats too expensive)
i got an ant shack medium outworld kit 2 to 3 times cheaper and not that much worse in quality
its smaller tho but it comes with a liquid feeder and some dishes and it ws already decorated
(means i dont need to do it it cost more but worth it)

there is a new hibernation exit date since it snow is melting faster then expected it date wil now be
2/27/2021 hope it doesnt get colder

new hibernation exit method

Post: # 75387Post LaSiUsNiGeR

instead of setting a datei can look ant other lasius niger ants i know a wild lasius niger colony
very close to my houe i can go look there everyday and if they come out of hibernation
i can let my ants out too

questioning the use of escape prevention if you have a lid
why would you need fluon or bp+ra if have a lid keeping them in?

Because you do not want them on the lid when you want to open it, but you should still be fine.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony
[Have a look at antmaps.org]
