So the queen that I thought was a C. Americanus is actually a C. us-ca02.
So here are some pictures of her!

She has a massive larvae that hopefully hatches soon. I'll keep y'all updated!

Hahaha you were quick to start your journal! Like I said before she might just turn out to be Camponotus americanus, but I do suspect she is the yet unnamed species. Her legs and the color of her gaster fit the latter better.

You might want to leave a note of where you captured your queen on that website I send you. I recall the location he found his queens at was quite specific, so the ants may have spread across a larger area then previously thought. Also if you upload your pics there, I am sure they will quite happilly confirm/deny my guess at its species.

My queen looks exactly like the C. us-ca02 queen. There is no doubt in my mind that she is a c.us-ca02.

Ms. Queen's largest larvae, is 4 mm! And she is growing. I figure she'll turn into a pupae. (Is there a proper term for that??) Any day now. It's crazy because the eggs are so tiny and the larvae get MASSIVE. This is such an exciting journey. Can't wait to see my first worker!

Her larvae is finally in pupae form! I had a really good feeling that it was going to be so I had to check this morning, I know I shouldn't have bothered the queen but I just had to check. And sure enough I saw a pupae. How long until the pupae hatches?

I'm happy to say that she is for sure a us-ca02. Her first worker has finally arrived!

I think I caught her in the middle of eclosing. Oops. Her seond worker should arrive in a week. Now I get to track exactly how long it takes for a pupae to hatch. A new pupae has recently come and while this one took about a month, I am going to track as accurate as I can how long it takes to eclose.
