My queen ant escaped her test tube!!!
she was a tetramorium immigrans! her test tube was perfectly set-up and i kept her in a dark drawer, before she escaped one time i checked on her, she was in the middle of the cotton and the glass so i added more cotton for protection, and not even a week has past and she escaped! what went wrong? i have another tetramorium queen and she settled in perfectly and laid a batch of eggs, but this girl did not like it and escaped! what do i do? what went wrong? and should i be concerned of her wandering my house?!

Re: My queen ant escaped her test tube!!!
First, i am not an expert, im very new to this, so, yeah..
Second, that sucks. Sorry she got away.
When i first started, i put my tubes in a plastic bowl with a lid. I had cut holes in the top and added screen to them for air. I was afraid there would be escapes, but so far ive been lucky. You probably just had a persistent queen.
Maybe next time, you can add more length to the cotton? instead of an inch deep, maybe 2?
As for her wondering the house, i actually caught a queen in the middle of my living room this year. Shes laid eggs and everything after i tubed her. So, i wouldnt worry about it.. they'll get in the house if you like it or not. lol

The best times I find these queens, are in May and early June, with occasional catches in July and August.cheetawolf wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 10:27 pmthank you for answering, i have another question, when is the best time to look for c pennsylvanicus ? and where?
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

Look on paths near bodies of water like a stream pond etc it will increase your chances of Camponotus spotting good luck!
Ants are life's most successful invaders. Understand and respect that power.
