so 3 days ago, i caught what i assumed was a pavement ant queen, she had no wings and i just put her in a test-tube setup. her gaster wasnt as big as i thought itd be, as i am just a beginner, thankfully she laid fertilised eggs within the first night. although, lately she seemed really tired, i dont if queens do that to save energy, but even thought she always stays with her eggs she doesnt really move, sometimes i test if shes dead so i flip over the test tube, and she would stay on her back for a couple seconds, before slowly struggling to get back up.
please tell me if theres anything wrong and other helpful tips i can use, as a first time ant keeper.

Re: tetramorium sp. e Queen help!
Pavement ant queens do that, I have kept many and they just sit there until they become workers, DO NOT flip her over as she may get stressed and eat all of her brood. I would only check on her once a week maximum as a stressed queen will eat her eggs. I like to just stare at the queens antenna to see if they are moving which shows she is alive, she will be dead when she is flipped over with her legs all held in together. Good luck with her and make sure to post some updates! Happy ant keeping!

Re: tetramorium sp. e Queen help!
Tetramorium sp. E has finally received a proper taxonomical name, Tetramorium immigrans.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
Re: tetramorium sp. e Queen help!
FINALLY after all these years, they have a name, the great drought is over! Thanks for letting me know, so they are different from the European species? I was so confused when I saw all the posts about Immigrans and I was like, “what?”, well thanks!
