Any ideas for keeping a camponotus pennsylvanicus queen from chewing through her cotton stopper? I have 3 queens and they are all doing the exact same thing. I don't want to pick the test tubes up to move them to a closed container because from what I've read, it could be just because its a new environment and they need time to calm down. I had 4 queens but one chewed all the way through in only a day.
It's natural for Camponotus specifically C. Pennslivanicus to pull at the cotton. What I do is let them pull it. They do this so they can put it on the wet cotton so the tube is dryer. When the cotton plug gets weaker just simply replace it. Sorry for the late post.
